Marvin Ducksch yet to score since Leeds’ interest emerged; should Whites steer clear?

Leeds United were linked with a move for Marvin Ducksch just last month, but the striker’s form may alarm the Championship side.

When the Daily Mail reported towards the end of November that Leeds wanted Holsten Kiel loanee Marvin Ducksch, the striker was sitting on a goals tally of 11 goals in 16 games in all competitions for the second tier side.

Given that record, there may well have been a number of Leeds fans who were keen on seeing whether Ducksch could be a useful addition as Thomas Christiansen’s men look to capitalise on their promising position in the Championship.

However, the number of fans who want to see the 23-year-old arrive will have surely decreased in recent weeks as Christiansen’s men appear to be improving after their slump earlier in the campaign, while the German’s case to be included on Victor Orta’s radar in January has looked less convincing lately.

Ducksch has now gone four games without a goal, and his recent misery in front of goal was compounded somewhat during Holsten Kiel’s clash with Fortuna Dusseldorf when he saw a penalty saved – though the save allowed teammate Dominick Drexler to score.

With Leeds already boasting a number of striker options on their books, any pursuit of another forward next month should arguably centre around a goalscorer Orta and Christiansen see as being better than the options the club already have.

And with Kemar Roofe scoring a hat-trick in the win over QPR at the weekend, and the likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Pawel Cibicki impressing at times, going after a striker who is now going through his longest drought of the season – and thus, may not arrive with much confidence if a deal does take place – would perhaps not be the best idea, especially if they have to be clever with their budget.
