Leeds United fans want proven Championship talent in January – but would they make an exception for Marvin Ducksch?

You’d think Leeds United’s Director of Football Victor Orta would have learned that it is easier said than done for foreign players to adapt to the gruelling Championship schedule.

With the exception of Samu Saiz and, on recent form Ezgjan Alioski, the raft of imported arrivals brought to Elland Road by the under-fire transfer guru have struggled in a recent run of seven defeats in nine games.

And Leeds fans have made it perfectly clear that they want proven Championship talent in January – players who know the league as opposed to further unknown additions a la Mateusz Klich, Jay-Roy Grot and Felix Wiedwald.

But it remains to be seen how Leeds fans will respond to the latest links with Marvin Ducksch. The Mail reports on Thursday that Leeds scouts watched the striker in action for 2.Bundesliga side Holsten Kiel at the weekend as they aim to reinforce a strikeforce that has flattered to deceive this season.

Lame Ducksch?

Now, former Borussia Dortmund youngster Ducksch has 11 goals in 16 games on loan at Holsten Kiel from St Pauli this season – making him the top scorer in Germany’s second tier so far in 2017/18.

Standing at 6ft 3ins, the 23-year-old is in the form of his life right now and could provide the presence in attack that would make Leeds a much more potent threat going forward.

On the other hand, however, Ducksch’s form in Germany’s second tier is no indication that he will score at the same impressive rate in England. In fact, Hamburg loanee Pierre-Michel Lasogga has struggled at times – and he moved to Leeds with plenty of experience in the Bundesliga under his belt.

In fact, the majority of Leeds supporters would probably prefer a Lewis Grabban or a Leonardo Ulloa in January – someone who has shown he can cut it in the Championship. Ducksch may just be an excellent signing but his arrival would put Orta under even more scrutiny.
