Celtic defender Marvin Compper has told The Scotsman that he and his teammates have to be ready for Rangers right from the first minute.

Graeme Murty’s Rangers will take on bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership next weekend.

The Hoops will head into the match against the Gers on the back of a 3-0 victory over Greenock Morton at Celtic Park in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Celtic defender Compper made his first-team debut for the Hoops against Morton, having joined the Glasgow giants from RB Leipzig in the January transfer window for a transfer fee reported by The Scotsman to be worth £1 million.

The 32-year-old centre-back has outlined how the Hoops need to approach the Old Firm derby against Rangers.

Compper told The Scotsman: “Obviously the Rangers game is one everyone wants to play. I will do my best during the week then it’s up to the gaffer.

“It is going to be very intense, a battle. We are going to need to be ready from the first minute.

“We cannot start like today or we might be 2-0 down so we have to be there from the first minute.”

Tough game

Celtic have the best squad in Scotland, but Rangers are in good form at the moment and will make it tough for the Hoops.

Playing at home will also give Murty’s side an advantage, and one should not be surprised if the Gers eke out a narrow win against Rodgers’s team.
