Glasgow Rangers ex-player Marvin Andrews has shared his honest opinion on what he’s seen from the Ibrox side this season and he admits there will probably be a feeling of missed opportunity within the Gers’ ranks.

Rangers ended 2018 on a high note, having beaten Glasgow rivals Celtic 1-0 at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership and going level on points with the Hoops, which boosted hopes of Steven Gerrard’s charges going on to win the title.

However, the Light Blues’ form tailed off after the winter break and, as things stand, are nine points adrift of Neil Lennon’s side, who look on course for an eighth consecutive title despite their own form tailing off in recent weeks.

Andrews, who played for the Ibrox side between 2004 and 2006, winning a Premiership title and League Cup, believes the Rangers contingent will look back at the 2018-19 with a tinge of regret, but also thinks the lessons from this term and a bolstering of ranks could help their consistency.

“The players and managers will look back at this season as one of missed opportunity,” the Trinidadian told the Glasgow Evening Times. “Rangers had the opportunity to win something this season but it didn’t quite happen unfortunately. When you look at it before the winter break, they were neck and neck with Celtic and then they came back after that break a completely different team.

“When they look back, they will see that they could have done better and there were opportunities there for them. I am sure next season they will learn from that and they can only become better and stronger for it. They will be better next season and hopefully the new players that will come in will help them become more consistent and more successful.”

Up next for Rangers is a Scottish Premiership meeting with Aberdeen, another side that was challenging for the title earlier in the season, at Ibrox on Sunday.
