Martyn Waghorn has reportedly turned down Middlesbrough for Derby County, but there’s an argument to suggest he’s picked the wrong club.

Martyn Waghorn may have made a mistake by turning down Middlesbrough and moving to Derby County instead.
The striker’s keenness to sign for the Rams is understandable, given that Frank Lampard seems to be forming an exciting project at Pride Park.
But there has to be question marks over whether Boro would have actually suited him better.
Waghorn enjoyed his best scoring season in the Championship last term with Ipswich Town, who played a far more direct style than Derby.

Boro also look to get the ball forward quickly, like Ipswich, so the transition period may not have been so vast.
Waghorn may also face being third choice striker at Derby, with Jack Marriott and Dave Nugent already at the club.
However, at Boro, he would have stood a chance of walking straight into Tony Pulis’ starting line-up.
And Waghorn may just regret not taking his chance to move to Boro, if things don’t work out for him with Derby.
