Former Glasgow Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn was not happy as the Ibrox side lost their appeal against Daniel Candeias’ red card.

Martyn Waghorn needed just one word on Twitter to sum up how he felt after hearing the news that the SFA have rejected Rangers’ appeal against Daniel Candeias’ second yellow card during the Gers’ win at the weekend.

Candeias was dismissed in incredibly controversial circumstances at St Mirren on Saturday. He received a yellow card for his celebration after breaking the deadlock in the latter stages. And while he did not have many complaints about that caution, few could quite believe how the Portuguese’s day ended.

Candeias was sent off in the moments following Alfredo Morelos’ goal that made the points safe. His confusion appeared to be justified as television pictures showed that the winger seemed to do little wrong and certainly nothing that justified a second yellow card.

Unfortunately for Rangers, the appeals process means that they were only ever going to be able to get the decision overturned had the yellow been for a dive or because of a case of mistaken identity. The Gers appealed on the basis of the latter.

However, the decision was not overturned and Candeias will now miss this weekend’s game against Motherwell. The news has sparked a lot of anger amongst Gers fans, as well as one of their former strikers.

Waghorn took to social media upon hearing the news that Candeias’ appeal had been thrown out, and it was clear what he made of the decision made by the SFA.
