Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers signed Ryan Hardie up to a new deal today.

Ryan Hardie of St Mirren misses a fine chance during the match beTFRED Cup Group Stage match between St Mirren and Edinburgh City at St Mirren Park on July 30, 2016 in Paisley, Scotland.

Rangers announced today that Ryan Hardie has signed a one-year contract extension at Ibrox.

The young academy product was due to be a free agent in a matter of weeks, but the Gers have signed him up to a one-year extension.

And two Rangers-affiliated strikers are delighted with the update.

Martyn Waghorn, who spent two years on the blue half of Glasgow before joining Ipswich Town last summer, tweeted his delight, while lifelong Gers fan and Ibrox-linked Oli McBurnie also added his sentiment.

It goes to show that the 21-year-old is highly thought of at Rangers and in Scotland in general, with Waghorn and McBurnie both sending congratulatory messages to him.

Hardie spent the second half of last season on loan at Livingston, netting eight goals in 15 Championship starts but injury curtailed his season.

He is clearly a big talent and one who Steven Gerrard is obviously keen on seeing up close next season.
