Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to offload Martyn Waghorn, and a return to Sunderland could appeal.
According to a report in the Daily Record, Martyn Waghorn is now considering leaving Glasgow Rangers and that could present Sunderland with an opportunity to bring the striker back to the Stadium of Light.
Waghorn developed as a youngster at Sunderland, but failed to make the grade on Wearside.
The 27-year-old has since gone on to enjoy a good career, and represented the likes of Leicester City, Hull City and, most recently, Rangers.
However, his time at Ibrox appears to be coming to an end with Pedro Caixinha ringing the changes at the Glasgow club.
Waghorn has struggled over the past campaign at Rangers, but his greatest success in his career has come at Championship level.
The energetic front-man has spent most his career in the second tier, and he could present a good option for Sunderland.
The Black Cats are in need of additions, following their relegation, and a forward is sure to be on their wishlist.
A move for Waghorn could, therefore, suit all parties – and it is an option that Sunderland’s new manager should consider this summer.
