Martyn Waghorn has 18 months left on his current deal with Glasgow Rangers.

Martyn Waghorn has suggested that he would like to restart talks with Rangers over a new deal soon after failing to agree a contract extension in the summer, the Daily Record reports.

The Record reports that Waghorn – whose current deal at Ibrox has 18 months left to run – entered discussions with the Gers hierarchy following the end of the last campaign but ultimately rejected the offer that was put on the table.

And while the Record has suggested that little progress has been made since, the forward insisted that he wishes to stay and hinted that he would like to get things sorted soon.

“Yeah definitely. It’s one of those ones where you don’t want to leave it too late and be undecided on your future,” he said, as reported by the Record.

“Hopefully we can get things going in the near future.

“But personally I think I need to do more in the starting line-up, getting goals and helping the team out.

“We’re still holding off on talks right now. I’m in no rush, the club are in no rush. I’ve still got 18 months left and hopefully I can start putting in some performances on the pitch, then we can see where that takes us.”

Though the 27-year-old has not been as prolific in the league this year as he was during his first campaign with the Light Blues – he has scored just three Scottish Premiership goals this term while he netted 21 in an injury-plagued league season last year – his overall record is promising.

In 21 appearances in all competitions this season, he has scored 10 times. And if he can start producing that kind of strike rate in the top flight, then perhaps he will be offered the kind of terms he was looking for when he rejected the deal in the summer.
