The Rams academy graduate scored the winner for the Pride Park side in the Carabao Cup first round.

Derby County forward Martyn Waghorn has taken to Twitter with a congratulatory message for Rams youngster Lee Buchanan following his fairytale debut in the 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United in the Carabao Cup.
The 18-year-old defender was one of six players to make their Derby debut in the game – four from the start and two from the bench – and aside from helping Phillip Cocu’s side to a clean sheet at Glanford Park, he was also the matchwinner.
Buchanan drilled home from inside the box with just 12 minutes to go to finally break the Iron resistance and edge the Rams into the next round courtesy of the 1-0 win, securing a tie against none other than bitter rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
On Wednesday, Waghorn replied to Derby’s match tweet confirming and celebrating Buchanan’s goal with a short but kind message:
As noted by the Carabao Cup’s Twitter channel, Buchanan – at 18 years and 159 days old – is the youngest player to score in this competition for Derby since 2013.
Last year, Derby veteran Curtis Davies – who had a spell out with injury and took part in some Under-23s games – singled the youngster out for praise, telling the official Rams website: “It was good to play alongside Lee Buchanan, who is making big strides at the moment in the academy.”
