The striker left Rangers 18 months ago, a year before Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox.
The one-time Ibrox striker, Martyn Waghorn, has posted a cheeky response to Rangers’ post-Kilmarnock Instagram update.
Rangers drew the Scottish Cup fifth tie 0-0 at Rugby Park, ensuring a replay back at Ibrox later this month.
But in a week where Rangers have seen two players banned for alleged violent conduct, Steven Gerrard’s side can count themselves unfortunate not to have spent the final 65 minutes with a man advantage, after Alan Power’s high-foot challenge on Ryan Jack, for which the Killie midfielder was only booked.
And the Gers were keen to highlight the perceived injustice by posting a still of the incident on Instagram.
It prompted Waghorn to reply: “Was this a yellow for Jacko?” – much to the delight of several of a Rangers persuasion.
Gerrard declined to comment on whether he thought Power’s tackle had warranted a harsher punishment from the referee, Alan Muir, but was quoted by the Scotsman as saying: “I’ll be interested to see whether there’s a citing. I don’t know who points the citings out – but I’ll be interested to see what happens.”
Waghorn scored twice as Derby County beat Hull City 2-0 on Saturday, to surpass a century of career goals – the bulk of which arrived as a Rangers player.
