Martyn Waghorn claims he has a lot to prove at Rangers

The 27-year-old knows he must do better for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn has told Rangers TV that he has a lot to prove at the Ibrox club this season.

Waghorn played a huge role in helping the Gers win promotion to the Scottish Premiership during the 2015-16 season, scoring 20 times in 25 Championship games.

But the 27-year-old striker, along with most of his team-mates, struggled with the step up in class to the top flight and only managed seven goals in 32 games last season.

As a result, Waghorn, who joined Rangers under Mark Warburton, knows he has plenty to prove in Glasgow but he is ready to meet the challenge head on as he eyes up a “successful season” for Pedro Caixinha’s side next term.

“For me, it’s going to be a big season – I want to do as well as I can for this club and I have a lot to prove,” he told Rangers TV.

“I feel like it is going to be a successful season for the team and I want to be a part of that.”

The Gers finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season, 39 points behind Celtic at the summit.

With Caixinha’s side already knocked out of the Europa League following a shock defeat by Progres Niederkorn, optimism isn’t at an all-time high among the Ibrox faithful.

But the Portuguese manager has made nine signings this summer and it should, in theory, be a different Rangers in the Premiership next season. Question is, will it be a better Rangers? Time will tell.
