Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez gave an insight into the mood in the Argentina dressing room after their shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Scaloni’s side were tipped as the overwhelming favourites alongside Brazil, heading into the World Cup.

However, the Copa America champions flattered to deceive, despite Lionel Messi handing them an early 10th minute lead from the spot.

Herve Renard’s side stunned La Albiceleste by scoring two quickfire goals in the space of 5 minutes in the second half.

Saleh Alshehri first bamboozled Tottenham’s Cristian Romero before slotting the ball past the £20 million (The Guardian) shotstopper.

While Salem Aldawsari made a mockery of a series of Argentine defenders before he put the ball right in the top corner to score perhaps the goal of the tournament so far.

Martinez lifts the lid on Argentina’s dressing room atmosphere

As quoted by ESPN, Emiliano Martinez revealed, “The dressing room is fine.”

“Obviously, today it’s going to hurt, as it’s going to hurt all Argentines. But if we want to win, if we want to win the World Cup, it’s good that the setback was today.”

While acknowledging the fact that the dressing room is sullen, the Villain is keeping a positive attitude as their upcoming games against Poland and Mexico could seal their fate.

Argentine will demand big characters in their dressing room such as Emiliano Martinez to rally the troops, and ensure they believe in the nation’s collective vision of becoming the champions of the world.
