Emiliano Martinez has admitted that he was ‘a little bit emotional’ coming up against Arsenal following Aston Villa’s 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium tonight, as he told beIN SPORTS (08/11/20 at 9:25 pm)

Months after leaving the club he served for over 10 years, Martinez rocked up to North London and kept a clean sheet against his former side.

In truth, he didn’t have much to do as Dean Smith’s side ran riot over Arsenal, with Ollie Watkins netting a brace and Bukayo Saka scoring an own goal.

After the game, Martinez was asked what it was like coming up against Arsenal, but he did make it clear that he is a ‘winner’.

“I am a little bit emotional, to be honest with you,” said Martinez. “Two months ago, I was lifting two trophies with them and I had been at Arsenal for 10 years.

“When I play against them now I just want to win. I am a winner. I am Argentinian. I respect them.”

One week after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford, Arsenal have hit their low of the season and Mikel Arteta will be annoyed at the fact that his side weren’t able to build on last week’s three points.

Arsenal’s main aim is to secure Champions League football at the end of the season and if they are to achieve that then they must beat teams like Villa, who finished below them during the last campaign.

But the problem with tonight’s performance was that they were second best all over the park and the incoming international break doesn’t help their cause in wanting to bounce straight back.
