The West Ham youngster would love to play with the Mexican forward.
West Ham United youngster Toni Martinez has revealed that he would relish playing alongside his idol Javier Hernandez.
Having regularly impressed at U23 level, Martinez has made two first-team appearances for West Ham this season, both of which have come in the FA Cup.
The 20-year-old will hope to be involved in the fourth round tie away to Wigan Athletic and especially wants to be paired up front with Hernandez.
As reported by the club’s official website, Martinez said: “I wish I could play alongside Chicharito because he is one of my idols. It would be a dream come true for me to play with him and, if I do, I’m going to try to do my best and I am sure the goals will come.
“It’s unbelievable when I think about players like Chicharito, who I can remember watching at home on television when I was 12-years-old, and it was my dream to play like him, and now I could play alongside him. Now, if I get the opportunity to play with him, it would make that dream come true.”
It is questionable whether Hernandez will still be at West Ham beyond the end of this month, with the striker the subject of interest from Besiktas, according to goal.
Hernandez’s spell at West Ham hasn’t exactly gone to plan following his switch from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but he has still produced some moments of quality and could still have a lot to offer West Ham if he was to remain at the club.
Martinez will hope that he can establish himself as an important part of the first-team squad before the end of the season, and if he features against Wigan then his performance could go a long way towards determining what further chances he will get.
