Trent Alexander-Arnold fired Liverpool into a lead against Manchester City this evening.
The King Power Stadium is hosting the Community Shield this year and the Liverpool right-back has given his side a narrow advantage at the break.
Midway through the first half, Alexander-Arnold’s curling effort from the edge of the box beat Ederson.
Speaking live on the World Feed commentary via ESPN, Tyler acknowledged that Alexander-Arnold is among the ‘very, very best’ right-backs in an attacking sense, but also mentioned his ‘lack of’ defensive ability.
He said, seconds after the goal: “Enormous ability. He can sometimes find himself on the wrong end of criticism for his defensive attributes, or lack of them. But as an attacking right-back he’s up there with the very, very best of them.”
Erling Haaland started for Pep Guardiola’s side but the big Norway international has struggled, fluffing a few golden opportunities to equalise.
Having said that, the towering hitman is growing into the game and it’ll be fascinating to see if Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip can continue to combat him during the second half.
Liverpool’s marquee signing of the summer, Darwin Nunez, started on the bench and we might also see him at some point after the break, too.
