Martin Tyler has revealed on Sky Sports that Anthony Taylor was told that Eric Bailly got the ball in a challenge with Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips and that is why the decision was overturned.

Liverpool were awarded a penalty by Taylor, when Bailly clattered into Phillips in an attempt to clear.

The United defended did get the ball, but on his follow through he also made contact with the rangy defender.

At the time Taylor pointed to the spot, but Paul Tierney, who was on VAR, deemed Bailly to have made a fair tackle.

And Tyler revealed the discussion between the officials live on Sky Sports.

He said: “It’s not been awarded yet. He’s been recommended to have a look at it. Paul Tierney is telling him that Bailly plays the ball with his left foot, we could hear what’s coming from Stockley Park with the VAR hub.”

Jurgen Klopp was clearly frustrated with the decision at the time, and threw his head in the air in laughter.

However, the VAR overturn ultimately didn’t have too much of an impact on the final result.

Liverpool were still able to turn things around, with a strong attacking display.

The Reds won 4-2, with a late breakaway goal from Mohamed Salah sealing the three points to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
