Rangers manager Steven Gerrard played with Martin Skrtel at Liverpool.

Skrtel worked with Rangers manager Gerrard at Liverpool, with The Daily Record claiming that the 34-year-old central defender has been a target of the Gers since last summer.
The Slovakian defender is a free agent at the moment, having parted company with Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The former Liverpool star – who was earning £60,000 per week as salary at Fenerbahce, according to The Daily Record – has said that there have talks regarding a move to Rangers.
The Daily Record quotes Skrtel as saying: “There are offers but I’m not in a hurry to choose my new team. I have some criteria and I have to be patient.
“My agent made interviews with Basaksehir, Fenerbahce, Parma, Olympiacos and Glasgow Rangers. But I can’t say anything more for now.”

Rangers move possible?
It is hard to see Skrtel take a massive pay-cut and join Rangers in the summer transfer window, and given that he is 34 years of age, the former Zenit Saint Petersburg star is past his prime and will not be a great long-term signing for the Gers.
