Martin Skrtel has hailed the Celtic boss as a great manager.

Former Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel has showered praise on Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, saying that he has played a part in Scotland’s World Cup fightback.
The 32-year-old, who played three seasons under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, said that Rodgers is a “great” manager, and he is not surprised to see him succeed at Celtic Park.
An own goal from Skrtel earned Scotland an important 1-0 win against Slovakia on Thursday night.

The Fenerbahce defender believes that the red card shown to Robert Mark was the turning point of the match. Scotland are now in second position behind England, and should they win against Slovenia away, Gordon Strachan’s side will go into the play-offs by finishing second.
Skrtel believes that Rodgers has played a part in Scotland’s revival. Celtic have gone from strength to strength under Rodgers, and Strachan’s Scotland squad features a lot of Celtic players, which is helping the national team.

Scott Brown and Stuart Armstrong (both missed out against Slovakia) are key players for both Celtic and Scotland, while the likes of Kieran Tierney, Leigh Griffiths, and James Forrest have all played a significant part in Scotland’s qualifying campaign.
“Brendan is a great manager. I played with him for two to three seasons at Liverpool. I am not surprised he is doing a great job there,” said Skrtel, as quoted by The Daily Record (printed edition; 7th October – page 61).
“It was after our game in Trnava that Scotland changed a lot, with more players in from Celtic.”
