Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers visit Celtic on Saturday.
Former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he cannot see Rangers challenging his old club for the Premiership title this season.
Both Old Firm rivals renew hostilities at Celtic Park on Saturday as Rangers travel to the green half of Glasgow knowing that a victory would see them move top of the table above the Hoops, who have played one game less.
The Gers managed to sign no fewer than 12 players during the summer transfer window in a recruitment drive which has strengthened theories that they could win the title on their first season back in the big time.
Celtic, however, have also signed some quality players and Brendan Rodgers has led them back into the Champions League group stages, for the first time in two years.
And O’Neill, who spent five years as Hoops manager, winning seven major titles, believes that Rodgers and co will have too much for Rangers – for this season at least.
“I don’t think that Rangers will push Celtic for the title. Not this season. But they will get stronger again and in a one-off game it is always interesting,” he told The GET.
“I wouldn’t be able to see past Celtic for the title this year, although of course you just never know..”
