All in all, Martin Odegaard’s loan spell at Arsenal has been a success.
The Norwegian has gotten the gametime he desired, he’s proven himself to be a top talent and he may have even secured himself a permanent move in the summer.
However, one thing that he isn’t likely to get at Arsenal this season is silverware.
Yes, the Gunners are still in the Europa League, but they’re out of contention in every other competition, and with the London club sitting 9th in the Premier League, it’s hard to say that they’re one of the favourites for the Europa League.
However, Odegaard’s former loan club Real Sociedad have this week won the Copa Del Rey, beating Athletic Bilbao in the rescheduled final of the 2020 competition.
For all intents and purposes, Odegaard was a part of that team. He even scored in the semi-final, but due to the forced rescheduling, he wasn’t able to play in the final, meaning that he may not get his well-deserved winners’ medal.
Of course, a loan spell is often about more than winning silverware, and while his spell at Arsenal has been a success, it’s hard to believe he won’t be at least slightly regretting his decision in January.

Indeed, he had an offer on the table from Sociedad in the winter window, but he instead opted to join the Gunners, but with La Real now landing a Copa Del Rey triumph, you can’t help but think that Odegaard would have loved to have been a part of that, especially after all the hard work he put in last season.
Arsenal fans won’t like to hear it, but Sociedad may well have been the better destination for Odegaard. We saw last season that he was able to showcase his talents under Imanol Alguacil as he made the La Liga breakout Team of the Season, and with Sociedad sitting 5th in La Liga, they’re in a better position than Arsenal at the moment.
In our view, Odegaard should be kicking himself for not re-joining Sociedad in January, even though Arsenal have provided him with a good platform to showcase his ability.
