Rio Ferdinand has said on BT Sport 1 (1:31pm, January 1, 2022) that Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard should have got a penalty against Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

Arsenal star Odegaard appeared to have been brought down by City goalkeeper Ederson in the first half of the Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium on New Year’s Day.

The referee did not give a penalty.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that it was a penalty.

Martin Odegaard – Ederson penalty incident

Ferdinand said on BT Sport 1 (1:31pm, January 1, 2022): “With VAR, I don’t understand how this was not given. In slow motion there, it’s clear and obvious there.”

In our opinion, Ederson’s challenge on Odegaard was a foul, and Arsenal should have been given a penalty.

It was not easy to see for the referee.

We have to admit that.

However, in our opinion, VAR should have chhttps://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/01/01/philippe-coutinho-arsenal-everton-barcelona-january-transfer-report/ecked the incident between Odegaard and Ederson.

Unless, of course, VAR did not think that it was a clear and obvious error.

In our view, if Arsenal’s Odegaard – who cost the Gunners £30 million (Sky Sports) – had been given the penalty. then the match could have been different.

Arsenal, though, played well against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and we think that manager Mikel Arteta, the players and the fans should be pleased.
