Tottenham Hotspur were heavily touted to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish last summer.
Martin O’Connor doesn’t think a top-six Premier League manager would want to sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish as he claimed that £25 million is his starting price for previous admirers Tottenham.
The Walsall caretaker manager, who also played for Birmingham City as a midfielder, believes the top end of England’s top-flight is the ‘elite of the elite’.
As reported by Sky Sports last summer, Spurs bid £25 million for Grealish, but a move didn’t materialise as the stayed on at his boyhood club.
Speaking to BBC Radio West Midlands Football Phone-In (02/05/2019), Saddlers manager O’Connor shared his thoughts on Grealish.
On whether a top-six manager would want him: “I’m not so sure,” O’Connor told BBC Radio WM. “I think it’s the elite of the elite. But then again, you look at the players they do buy and you think, Jack Grealish has been in that type of framework.
On Tottenham wanting him and the value of Grealish: “I think again, potential. Tottenham bid £25 million last year, that’s your starting point.”
There is no doubt that Grealish’s game has improved once again this season and given Villa’s current predicament they will do very well to keep hold of him if they don’t earn promotion.
At this moment in time, Dean Smith’s side will be preparing for their final game of the regular season when they welcome Champions-elect Norwich City to Villa Park on Sunday.
Then, they will prepare for a mouthwatering double-header in the playoffs with their semi-final opponents most likely to be Midland rivals, West Brom.
If they can come through that fixture then either Leeds, Bristol City, Derby County or Middlesbrough await them in the playoff final.
