Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown has stated his belief that Tottenham Hotspur did not need to sign Moussa Sissoko.

In his column for the Daily Mail, former Arsenal star Martin Keown believes that Moussa Sissoko is an ‘unnecessary’ signing for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur arguably made the biggest impact during transfer deadline day after swooping in to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United for a whopping fee of around £30 million.
There is no doubting the fact that Sissoko is a wonderfully talented player and Tottenham would have been pleased at finally being able to secure the services of their long-time target.

That being said, many are not convinced as to whether Sissoko will be able to justify his huge price tag and there is a general consensus that Spurs overpaid to sign the French international.
The likes of Paul Merson and Chris Sutton have slammed Sissoko upon the completion of his move to Tottenham and now another former player in Martin Keown has gone on to express his reservations regarding the new Spurs signing.
Keown believes that it is very uncharacteristic of Tottenham to spend so much money on a single player and stated that Spurs did not need to sign Sissoko as they already possessed a player of a similar mould in Moussa Dembele.

The former Arsenal defender stated in his column for the Daily Mail, “I think it’s an awful lot of money for a player who struggled for consistency in his three years at Newcastle.
“Though having said that, I was surprised by how well he played for France at Euro 2016 and it’ll be interesting to see how Mauricio Pochettino can make it work. The Argentine seems to develop players well.
“Paying £30million for any player is very uncharacteristic of Tottenham, and given that they’re in the process of building a new stadium, I wouldn’t have thought it was money they can afford to waste.
“He is also quite a similar player to Mousa Dembele, who was excellent last season, so the whole deal seems a bit unnecessary to me.”
There has been a lot of criticism directed towards Sissoko upon his move to Tottenham and one can be sure that the 27-year-old will be desperate to prove his doubters wrong.
