Everton signed Jordan Pickford from Sunderland last summer.
Martin Keown has told The Daily Mail that he isn’t fully convinced by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as of yet.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a decent first season at Everton following his £30 million summer move from Sunderland.
Well, in terms of individual performances anyway.
Overall it has been a horrendous season for the Toffees, whose £150 million expenditure during the summer promised a top-four challenge but, with 10 Premier League games to go, the Goodison Park club are ninth and 21 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
But that isn’t strictly down to Pickford, who has by no means been Everton’s worst player this season, though Keown suggests the young goalkeeper can still get a lot better when discussing his hopes of being England’s number one in the World Cup.
“Jordan Pickford is a tremendous kicker of the ball and could be England’s No1 but there is an issue in his game that he needs to sort out,” he told The Daily Mail.
“When he makes a save, he tends to keep the ball alive for the opposition rather than parry it around the post. If I was defending in Pickford’s team, I would have to be alert for anything that rebounds.
“He needs to adjust his movement and read things better.”
