Martin Keown says Tottenham would be challenging United and City if they were playing at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled in their temporary home of Wembley this season.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has been speaking to the Daily Mail about Tottenham Hotspur’s Wembley woes, suggesting that if they had been playing in more familiar surroundings this season, they would have made it a three-way fight for the Premier League title with Manchester United and Manchester City.

“Spurs’ uncertainty at home is costing them.” Keown said. “Last year they had such an incredible record there.

“If they were still at White Hart Lane I’d say they would definitely challenge.”

Tottenham were Chelsea’s closest challengers last time out. However this season Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled to beat teams at ‘home’, drawing with Swansea City and Burnley and losing to the reigning champions.

There has been better news in the cups, with Tottenham winning at Wembley against both Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and Barnsley in the EFL Cup.

That said, there is still a lot of work to do to ensure more teams are overcome with ease, as they were so often at White Hart Lane.

The one positive for Tottenham is that, while they have struggled, there is no doubt they have the quality players to ensure the campaign is a successful one.

Despite only taking two points at home in the league so far, Spurs are fifth in the table, just two points behind third-placed Chelsea with five matches played.

Next up for Tottenham is a trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United and if Harry Kane can fill his boots there, it will be a great end to a positive week.
