Martin Keown has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:48pm, December 11, 2021) that Leeds United winger Raphinha was stupid to make the challenge on Chelsea central defender Antonio Rudiger.

Leeds winger Raphinha made a sliding challenge on Chelsea defender Rudiger in the second half.

The Blues were awarded a penalty.

And Jorginho scored.

Chelsea went on to win the match 3-2.

Raphinha v Rudiger verdict

Arsenal legend Keown was analysing the match on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:48pm, December 11, 2021) on Saturday.

And the BBC Sport pundit was really not impressed by Raphinha’s challenge.

Keown said: “He draws the challenge. Really stupid challenge from Raphinha. It really is a poor challenge.”

Harsh result for Leeds

Now, on the balance of play, we think that Chelsea deservedly won the match.

However, in our opinion, Leeds did deserve something from the match.

After all, Chelsea won the game only due to a controversial late penalty kick.

In our view, it would not have been an unfair result at all had the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The result means that Chelsea maintain their march towards the Premier League title.

As for Leeds, they still remain in danger of getting relegated to the Championship.
