Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Martin Keown has been talking about Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The Everton goalie hasn’t had the best of seasons, and understandably, there has been discussion around whether or not he should remain as England’s number one.

Indeed, Aaron Ramsdale’s good form for Arsenal has put Pickford under plenty of pressure.

However, despite this, Martin Keown thinks that Pickford will keep his spot in the England team, but he says that he needs to calm down.

What’s Keown said?

The Arsenal legend gave his view on the goalkeeper.

“Pickford, when he plays for England, I don’t know what he does Gareth Southgate, but he seems to settle him down nicely. He’s loyal Southgate, so I don’t see it changing for the next World Cup, but Ramsdale is on his shoulder and he’s coming after him. Pickford needs to settle down and produce some stable performances, because I think he’s really erratic, he’s one that just needs to calm down, when he makes a save, enjoy making the save, don’t give me a rollicking, this goalkeeper is Mr Angry,” Keown said.

Intensity

Keown says that Pickford needs to calm down, but if that’s a part of his game, then he shouldn’t change it.

Yes, he can sometimes look a little unnerving in the goal when he’s shouting and screaming, but if that’s how he psyches himself up, then let him get on with it.

Some of the best goalkeepers of all-time fed off of their anger and passion. Can you imagine Oliver Khan or Peter Schmeichel playing in a calm manner?

Pickford’s aggression has never led to a red card for Everton and he’s not one to constantly give away penalties, so perhaps he should focus on improving other areas of his game aside from his mentality.
