West Ham United have a new manager but the former centre-back is not sure things will change.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail what he thinks of David Moyes’ appointment as West Ham United manager, and it is not encouraging reading for Hammers fans.

West Ham parted company with former boss Slaven Bilic prior to the international break, and now the former Everton and Manchester United gaffer has been tasked with turning things round at the London Stadium. However, when asked about the Hammers’ hopes, Keown told the Mail it would not be easy.

“I am not confident at all,” the former centre-back said. “A West Ham fan asked me this week to name three teams worse than them and at the moment you would struggle to do so.

“Only time will tell if they have made the right decision on hiring David Moyes.”

West Ham are currently 18th in the Premier League with just nine points from a possible 33, and they are deep in a relegation scrap even at this early stage of the campaign.

Moyes has not had a decent season since he left Everton, with his spells at United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland all ending in disaster, so Hammers supporters would be forgiven for approaching the coming weeks with trepidation.

There is still plenty of time to turn things around and West Ham have the players to ensure a comfortable mid-table finish come May. However, with all 20 Premier League clubs desperate to maintain their top flight status and Moyes entering a beleaguered dressing room, it will not be an easy task.
