West Ham left back Arthur Masuaku impressed BBC pundit Martin Keown.
Arthur Masuaku celebrates James Collins’ goal against Chelsea
Pundit Martin Keown has told BBC Radio Five Live’s Football Daily that he was impressed with West Ham’s new signing Arthur Masuaku against Chelsea.
The Hammers opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 defeat away at Stamford Bridge, with Eden Hazard’s penalty handing Chelsea the lead after a foul from Michail Antonio on Oscar.

West Ham did hit back with a superb strike from defender James Collins, but a late goal from Diego Costa handed Chelsea all three points on a disappointing evening for Slaven Bilic’s men.
Whilst winger Antonio had a torrid night at right back, the game also saw new signing Arthur Masuaku make his debut for the club on the other side of Bilic’s defence.

Left back Masuaku, 22, joined West Ham from Olympiakos last week given that the club’s first-choice left back Aaron Cresswell had been ruled out for around four months with knee ligament damage.
Masuaku was thrown straight into the starting line-up against Chelsea, and certainly showed why West Ham were so keen to sign him with a impressive, composed performance.
The Frenchman was strong and pacey, with fans no doubt impressed with his willingness to go forward – something that West Ham needed in Cresswell’s absence.

After the game, former Arsenal defender and current pundit Martin Keown spoke to BBC Radio Five Live’s Football Daily about Masuaku’s performance, and admitted that he was impressed with the former Valenciennes star, whilst tipping him for a big future in East London.
“He was impressive,” said Keown. “Cresswell is out for a long time, there’s a lot of concern there, but Masuaku did really well on that left hand side as a left back, and he’s certainly got a big future at West Ham,” he added.
