Martin Keown has suggested to BBC Sport that Phil Jagielka played well for Everton against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Friday evening.

The 35-year-old central defender started the game and played for the entire 90 minutes, as the Toffees lost 2-1.

Former Arsenal and Everton central defender Keown was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Jagielka, who has been on the books of the Toffees since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Sheffield United for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £4 million.

Keown told BBC Sport (21:35): “Phil Jagielka has had an excellent game, never mind his involvement for the Everton goal.”
