Newcastle will feature in the Premier League this season after winning automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
Former Arsenal star Keown has picked striker Gayle as the player who will be key for Rafael Benitez’s side this season.

“When he was at Selhurst Park, Gayle’s imaginative finishing reminded me of Ian Wright, another Palace old boy,” Keown wrote in The Daily Mail about Gayle while picking him as Newcastle’s key player this season.
“He thrived in the Championship, scoring 23 goals, and now he has the chance to prove he belongs at the highest level.”

Gayle failed to make a huge impact in the Premier League when he was at Crystal Palace, but the 27-year-old striker was in brilliant form for Newcastle in the Championship last season.
The former Peterborough United striker scored 23 goals and provided two assists in 26 Championship starts for the Magpies during the 2016-17 campaign.
The striker will have to be on top of his game if Newcastle are to have a successful season in the Premier League.
The Magpies will kick off their 2017-18 Premier League campaign with victory over Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
