Tottenham Hotspur are 17 points adrift of Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Martin Keown of Arsenal waves to the fans during the Martin Keown Testimonial match between Arsenal and England XI at Highbury, on May 17, 2004 in London.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown shared his belief that Tottenham would be pushing Manchester City for the Premier League title, had they played their home games at White Hart Lane this season, when writing his regular Tackle Keown column for the Daily Mail.

Spurs are playing all of their home games at Wembley Stadium this season, whilst their new 61,000 capacity arena continues to be built.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have once again impressed this term, and currently sit in fourth position in the Premier League table, although they are a massive 17 points adrift of Manchester City, having played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Lilywhites are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League, but it is a shame that they have been unable to mount a sustained push for the league title.

Keown explained why he believes they have fallen so far adrift of the Citizens this season, when writing his regular Tackle Keown column for the Daily Mail:

“I do feel that had they been playing at White Hart Lane this season — where Tottenham won 17 and drew two of their 19 league games last season — they would be closer to Manchester City in the title race.”

Keown’s comments aren’t exactly backed up with stats, though.

Tottenham have the fourth best home record in the league, having lost only once at Wembley all season long.

Had they taken as many points as Manchester City at home, they would still be eight points adrift of them in the table, so even if they were playing at White Hart Lane, the Premier League title would surely still have been out of their reach.
