Martin Keown offers verdict on Everton boss Marco Silva

Everton are out of the FA Cup after being beaten by Millwall on Saturday.

Everton are out of the FA Cup – and Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that he thinks boss Marco Silva is ‘in trouble’ after another disappointing game.

The Toffees will not have wanted a trip to The New Den given their poor run of form of late, but Richarlison did put them in front with a long-range strike that Jordan Archer just couldn’t handle.

The big story of the game surrounded Everton’s struggles from set pieces, and a long free kick into the box saw Lee Gregory equalise for Millwall, before Cenk Tosun put Everton back in front in the second half.

However, those defensive issues cropped up again, with Jake Cooper equalising from another set piece before Murray Wallace won it in added time for Millwall, again from a free kick.

Everton were pretty dismal, especially in a defensive sense, and fans have been left furious with their side’s performance against a team struggling in the Championship.

Everton are now out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, whilst sitting 14 points off the top six and 17 points off the top four in the Premier League after a dreadful run under Silva.

Now, ex-Everton defender and current pundit Keown has suggested the he feels there are major similarities between Silva’s great start at Watford last season, before it all went downhill and he was sacked in January 2018.

Keown says Silva has ‘no excuses’, and feels that he is in real danger of losing his job, adding that Everton will not hesitate to sack the Portuguese boss if he continues to struggle.

“Silva is in trouble and there are worrying similarities from his time in charge of Watford,” said Keown. “After a strong start at Vicarage Road — he won four of his first eight Premier League games in charge — it all began to go downhill. The same is happening at Goodison Park now, with Silva’s side having only won twice in the league since November. The speculation around his being wanted by Everton was cited as the reason he ‘lost focus’ at Watford.”

“So what is it that’s creating this lack of consistency now? Silva has no excuses and Everton will not wait to see if he can turn things around. The expectations are higher now than when Moyes was in charge. If Silva does not wake up soon, he could find himself out of the job,” he added.
