Mauricio Pochettino’s men are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League.
Martin Keown
Martin Keown has named Tottenham Hotspur pair Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen amongst his early contenders for the player of the season in the Premier League, the Daily Mail reports.
After coming close to clinching the title last season, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have begun the new campaign in a similar vein.

After seven games, they sit second in the table, and following their recent victory over Manchester City, Spurs are the only team left in the top flight that boast an unbeaten record.
Unsurprisingly therefore, Keown named two members of Pochettino’s squad when asked to pick which players have impressed him the most this term.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld
“Before his injury, Kevin De Bruyne was starting to look dynamite in that midfield role alongside David Silva for Manchester City. In that central position he is starting to turn into a really top player,” he told the Daily Mail.
“I have also been very impressed by Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen at Tottenham. Sometimes with defenders you want to talk about partnerships rather than individuals and these two look very solid, as they did last season.”
Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen
The Belgian pair’s partnership was crucial to Spurs coming so close to glory last season, and it appears that, worryingly for the rest of the division, they are still making progress alongside each other.
Tottenham have conceded just three goals in the league so far this season, which is four fewer than City, who currently sit at the summit.
And if they can maintain that form throughout the campaign, it seems impossible to imagine that Spurs will not be main players in the title race when the season reaches the business end.
