Martin Keown likens Harry Kane to Alan Shearer, says no one can match the Tottenham striker in two areas

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored four goals in two games since the international break.

Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the closest striker England has had since Alan Shearer – adding that Kane is unrivalled in two areas.

Kane continued his bright start to September with another two goals as Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in their Champions League opener at Wembley on Wednesday.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live afterwards, Keown’s old England teammate Phil Neville described Kane as ‘one of the most complete centre forwards for some time’.

And when asked in his weekly column for the Daily Mail how the 24-year-old is so effective, Keown replied: “Kane is probably the closest striker we’ve had to Alan Shearer. I always felt with Shearer that he wasn’t beating me in the air, he wasn’t beating me for pace, but his goalscoring record was always second to none.

“It’s the same with Kane. They are on the pitch to score goals and, at the moment, Kane is living and breathing goals. No one can match his power and accuracy when shooting, and he always seems to find the corners.”

Kane has now scored 103 goals in 170 Tottenham appearances, on top of another 16 in 65 on loan to Millwall, Leyton Orient, Leicester City and Norwich.

And while the England striker still has some way to go if he’s to surpass Shearer’s tally of 379 goals at club level, he’s got plenty of time in which to do it.
