The Arsenal legend is a big fan of the Everton youngster it seems.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Martin Keown has singled out Everton youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin for praise after his performance on Monday.
Everton drew 1-1 away to Manchester City as Wayne Rooney scored in his second successive game since re-joining the Toffees this summer.
In doing so, the 31-year-old also reached the 200-goal mark in the Premier League and commanded much of the post-match talking points as a result.
Consequently, Rooney perhaps overshadowed a number of his team-mates – and one of them was probably the 20-year-old attacker, who caused Man City no end of problems and set up the veteran striker for his milestone goal.
Calvert-Lewin, a £1.5 million signing from Sheffield United back in January, looks to have a very promising future at Goodison Park, and Keown said he was “very impressed” by the starlet this week.
“I was very impressed with Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Everton against City on Monday night. He reminded me of Dele Alli — he put the fear of god into City’s defence,” he told The Daily Mail.
“John Stones and Vincent Kompany were panicking when Calvert-Lewin ran at them.
“Both Everton and Liverpool are carrying a torch for young English players this season and it is great to see.”
Everton fans will hope to see more of the young forward this season, but if manager Ronald Koeman brings in another striker then his first-team prospects may be bleak.
