Martin Keown gave his take on talkSPORT (10:09am, January 29, 2021) on Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard reportedly about to join West Ham United.
According to Sky Sports, Lingard will join West Ham on loan from Premier League rivals United before the January transfer window closes next week.
The 28-year-old, who can also operate as a winger, will stay on loan at the Hammers until the end of the season, according to the report.
Keown said about Lingard and West Ham on talkSPORT (10:09am, January 29, 2021): “West Ham are doing incredible at the moment. So I think it’s quite significant for them.
“They want to boost their squad, they want to attack that fourth position. So let’s see how he does. He likes to bomb through midfield, you wonder if he is actually going to get into the West Ham team, I assume he will do so, perhaps he plays just off the front.”
Good signing for West Ham United?
Lingard has not played much for United this season, but West Ham manager David Moyes knows the England international well from his time at Old Trafford.
The Hammers are doing well at the moment and appear to be in the running for the Champions League places.
Lingard has extensive experience of playing in the Premier League and in European competitions, and he could give West Ham an edge.
While it is going to be hard for Lingard to go straight into the West Ham team, he will give Moyes a valuable option.
West Ham are doing places, and perhaps with Lingard in the squad, they will end up in the Champions League spots.
