Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown feels that Tottenham Hotspur may be short up-front.

Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that he doesn’t believe Vincent Janssen is ready for the Premier League yet.

Janssen was brought to Spurs during the summer transfer window from AZ Alkmaar, but he has struggled to make an impact so far.

The Dutch forward has made 10 appearances for Tottenham to date, but he has only scored on one occasion.

Janssen was not even included in Tottenham’s starting line-up, for their latest match against Manchester City, even with Harry Kane out injured.

And Keown said: “Vincent Janssen doesn’t quite look ready for the Premier League.

“Without Kane, are they strong enough in that central area? Tottenham will attack you from all angles but they look a little short in that central position.”

Heung-Min Son was preferred to Janssen to start against City, and Mauricio Pochettino’s decision was justified as Spurs ran out 2-0 winners.

Janssen appears to already have some doubters to win over at White Hart Lane, but Pochettino has publicly backed the striker to come good before.

Janssen’s next chance to impress for Spurs could come after the international break – when the North London side take on West Bromwich Albion.
