The Tottenham Hotspur striker had a poor Euro 2016 with England.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane wins the 2015/16 Barclays Golden Boot Award, scoring 25 goals.
The 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or was announced this week with Premier League stars such as Dimitri Payet, Paul Pogba and Kevin De Bruyne all present.
There was also a place on the list for Leicester City pair Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez after their heroics last season.
But Tottenham Hotspur fans were left wondering where their star striker was. Harry Kane was left off the list despite being the top-scorer in the Premier League last season.
England’s Harry Kane looks dejected
But former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has presented two simple reasons why Kane has not been given the nod. He suggested the Spurs star’s struggles for England in the Euros during the summer and the fact Tottenham did not win the title last season may have played against him.
Keown wrote in the Daily Mail:
“Not if you look at what he did in the Euros. It does seem strange that the top goalscorer in one of the major European leagues is not included but he did not catch the eye at the Euros.

“That is where you come under the microscope and he simple wasn’t able to perform at the same level as the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in France.
“If he’d had a good tournament, there is no doubt that he would have been on the list.
People have questioned why Jamie Vardy has been included but not Kane. Vardy is a champion and Kane isn’t yet.”

Kane, undeniably, had a great season last term. He scored 32 goals in 64 games for club and country but he flopped in France in the summer and Tottenham did capitulate toward the end of the campaign.
There will surely come a time when Kane finds his name on this prestigious list.
But right now he must simply focus on getting fit and ready for Tottenham Hotspur.
