VAR was once again in the spotlight during Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday.

Martin Keown has stated that he ‘respects’ Dele Alli’s comments that the ball did not hit his arm during Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Watford, but he thinks he is wrong in what he is saying.
Alli’s equalising goal was eventually given by VAR, with replays showing that the ball may have hit his arm, although the evidence wasn’t absolutely clear.
After the game, Alli stated that he thought that there was no contact with his arm and the ball [Metro], with VAR adding confusion to the matter when it displayed the wrong message on the board.
Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (19/10/2019 5:15 pm), Keown believes that the officials got the decision ‘wrong’, as he was also reacting to Alli’s comments.
“The shameful thing in a way is that Watford were so close to getting an incredible first win of the season, they have been denied,” Keown told Final Score.
“Okay, I respect what he [Alli] is saying, he doesn’t think it hit his arm. But it does look like it hit the arm. There’s no doubt that VAR and the referee certainly got that one wrong. It hits the arm for me. And I cannot believe the decision.”

In the end, the goal stood and Spurs walked away with the point, but they would have been disappointed with their day’s work.
Whether or not Spurs were given any luck against Watford, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that they can have some more luck for their upcoming fixtures.
On Tuesday night, Pochettino will be preparing his boys for a home tie against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League before they take on current Premier League leaders Liverpool.
