Ronald Koeman has publicly criticised Everton midfielder Ross Barkley this season.
Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that he does not believe Everton boss Ronald Koeman has managed Ross Barkley well.
Koeman has publicly criticised Barkley this season, and he has taken the 22-year-old out of Everton’s first-team at stages.
Barkley responded by putting in his best performance of the season during Everton’s win over West Ham United last weekend.
However, Keown feels as if Koeman has been too harsh on Barkley, and that he should be building his Everton side around the attacking midfielder’s talents.
“Ronald Koeman, Barkley’s manager at Everton, usually finds a way to get his English players to adapt to his ideas,” the former Arsenal defender said. “I don’t think he’s been getting it completely right with Barkley so far – and vice versa. If it was me, I would try to build the Everton team around him.”
Barkley struggled over the initial part of the season, but he finally opened his goalscoring account for the new campaign last weekend.
The England international is now likely to retain his place in Everton’s starting line-up for their match this weekend, which comes against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
If Everton are able to beat Antonio Conte’s side they could move up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
