Martin Keown gave his take on talkSPORT (10:25am, January 29, 2020) on the situation of Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur.
Bale, who returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, is struggling for playing time at the moment, despite being fully fit and available.
According to WhoScored, the 31-year-old Wales international winger has made one start and four substitute appearances in the Premier League and has scored one goal in six Europa League games for Spurs so far this season.
Bale played well against Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup and scored a goal, but the winger did not start in the defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Thursday evening.
Arsenal legend Keown believes that Bale played well against Wycombe, and that Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho should have made use of him against Liverpool.
Keown said about Bale on talkSPORT (10:25am, January 29, 2020): “When you play within yourself, you are expecting something to break down on you, whether it’s a calf, whether it’s a hamstring, there’s a slight pain, there’s a slight discomfort, but in the Wycombe match, I felt that had gone, and that he was starting to fly.
“He was running past people, and I think last night was the moment to use him in that game. He could have played in that wing-back role.”

Staying positive
Bale is starting to show some encouraging signs, and Tottenham fans should stay positive. Perhaps in the coming weeks and months, Mourinho will make more use of Bale.
Meanwhile, according to ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain are in talks with Angel Di Maria over a new contract.
Tottenham are interested in signing Di Maria on a free transfer in the summer of 2021 when his current deal at PSG runs out, according to L’Equipe, but the French club are in talks with the former Manchester United winger over extending his stay.
