Tottenham lost 2-0 to bitter North London rivals Arsenal away from home at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League last Saturday afternoon.
Spurs headed into the North London derby as favourites, but the Gunners deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side, though, did bounce back on Tuesday evening, as they got the better of Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund 2-1 away from home in the Champions League.
Former Arsenal star Keown, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, has suggested that Spurs lost the match against the Gunners due to complacency.
“It’s nothing short of what I would expect,” Keown wrote in The Daily Mail regarding Tottenham’s win against Dortmund after the defeat to Arsenal. “All they’re guilty of is complacency.
“They’re young players. They had a couple of weeks over the international break where they could soak up the praise.
“You’re basking in the sun of everyone wanting to write nice things about you. You can sometimes fall into a trap. That’s perhaps what they were guilty of.”
Tottenham have a young and talented team, and fans should be optimistic about the season ahead.
Losing to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium was not a disaster, and it was encouraging at the way that they bounced back on Tuesday evening in the Champions League.
