Martin Keown said on BT Sport 1 (12:22pm, January 23, 2021) that he does not think that Ryan Bertrand will leave Southampton for Arsenal.

The Arsenal legend made the comments while co-commentating on the FA Cup fourth-round tie between Southampton and Arsenal at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

According to The London Evening Standard, the Gunners are considering a move for the 31-year-old England international left-back.

Arsenal reportedly want a left-back to compete with Kieran Tierney and have identified the former Chelsea man as a potential target.

Keown said about Bertrand on BT Sport 1 (12:22pm, January 23, 2021): “He has that experience. This is a young team here, so I don’t think he is going anywhere.”

Unlikely Arsenal transfer in January

Southampton are doing well in the Premier League at the moment and could end up in the European places at the end of the season.

The Saints are unlikely to be willing to sell any of their important players, especially so late in the January transfer window.

Bertrand is playing regular first-team football for Southampton, and while Arsenal are a big club and are playing in the Europa League this season, the former Chelsea man will know that he will play second fiddle to Tierney at the Emirates Stadium.
