Martin Keown believes that Tottenham striker Harry Kane must avoid being overworked.

Martin Keown has raised a concern over the workload on Tottenham and England centre-forward Harry Kane, stating he must be given a major rest next summer.

The 25-year-old is a talisman for domestic side Spurs, while he is also the captain of Gareth Southgate’s England team.

Keown insists that the striker has to ensure he doesn’t burn out due to the amount of stress on him.

He claims that finding a striker partner for England could be a good solution to ease his international load, something which has happened already at Spurs in the shape of Lucas Moura this campaign.

“We [England] need to continue to get what we’re getting from Harry Kane,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“We’ve seen this season at Tottenham that they have decided to play someone along him in Lucas Moura. That’s important.

“The workload for these players is relentless and Kane is going to need a significant rest next summer.

“Gareth Southgate maybe has to find someone who is capable of helping Kane in the same way on the international stage.”

Kane has been non-stop since bursting onto the scene with Spurs and is viewed as the main man for both club and country.

There is a suggestion that he may be suffering with some form of tiredness, as he’s not looked anywhere near his best this season for Spurs despite scoring twice in four games.

The striker also started the World Cup in brilliant fashion by topping the goalscoring charts with six goals, but none of them came in the latter stages of the tournament.

He racked up a total of 52 games for club and country in 2017, scoring 56 goals in return during the calendar year, but he certainly has a huge workload.
