New Everton summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson joined Swansea City from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2014.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has suggested in The Daily Mail that Tottenham Hotspur manager regrets letting Gylfi Sigurdsson leave.

Sigurdsson was on the books of Tottenham from 2012 until 2014 before making the switch to Premier League rivals Swansea City.

During his time at White Hart Lane, the Iceland international attacking midfielder was able to make only 26 starts in the Premier League, as reported by The Mirror.

The 27-year-old played well for the Swans for the past three years and joined Merseyside outfit Everton in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Mirror to be worth £45 million.

Former Arsenal defender Keown has stated that Spurs manager Pochettino was too quick to let Sigurdsson go, and has claimed that the Argentine regrets the decision.

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Spurs looks on prior to the Pre-Season Friendly match beween Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

“He is a special player,” Keown wrote in The Daily Mail. “Sigurdsson was first brought to my attention when he was a young kid at Reading.

“The late Eamonn Dolan coached Sigurdsson and said he was the most intelligent footballer he had worked with.

“I think Mauricio Pochettino made the decision to let him go from Tottenham to Swansea too hastily. He had Christian Eriksen in a similar position but I suspect he regrets letting him go.”

Sigurdsson is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and the 27-year-old should prove to be a great signing for Everton.

The Toffees will be aiming to break into the top six of the league table this season and perhaps even challenge for the Champions League places.
