Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders at Tottenham Hotspur this season despite working on such a limited budget.

Martin Keown has warned Tottenham Hotspur that Mauricio Pochettino could leave the club if they win the Champions League final next month.

The North London outfit will be preparing for one of the biggest nights in their history when they travel to Madrid on June 1st to try and claim their first major Champions League crown.

If Spurs are holding the trophy at the end of that night then Pochettino and his players will be rightly applauded for one of the great achievements given what they have had to work with this season.

Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (12/05/2019 5:15 pm), Keown believes that Pochettino potentially leaving the club at the end of their campaign is a real threat.

“They are going into their biggest ever moment in terms of a Champions League final,” Keown told FInal Score. “But you feel like it’s a crossroads for them because he’s putting it out there that he wants the money to be able to build upon this team and take them on as champions. Can they be champions? Because there is a big gap between the top two and the rest.

“He knows that Pochettino and he can’t keep bridging that gap. You can’t keep reaching Champions League finals on the budget he has had. It’s a real threat, he is saying, ‘I can go here if I win this Champions League because if I stay, will you support me?’

“And that is a big question now for Daniel Levy. Is he going to give him the money that he needs because if he doesn’t then they’ll lose an outstanding manager and they can’t afford to do that.”

Tottenham’s journey to the Champions League final has been a remarkable one considering what happened in the summer and throughout this campaign.

They started the season at Wembley, without signing any players in the summer and hoping to move into their new stadium as soon as possible. That move didn’t happen until the turn of the year.

Added with that, Pochettino has had to deal with key absent players such as Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli to name a few.

But still, Pochettino has managed to push his team to a top-four finish in the Premier League and to a European Cup final after that dramatic turnaround against Ajax.
