Martin Keown has been discussing the recent events at Everton surrounding Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker has been in supreme form this season. His 19 goals in the Premier League this season make him the league’s top goal-scorer and he has scored an impressive 81 goals for Everton in 156 games.

But he confirmed earlier this week that he wants to play Champions League football, as it emerged he has rejected a contract extension at Goodison Park.

BBC pundit Martin Keown, who played at Everton for four years, has been discussing the future of Lukaku, and feels he might be on his way out of England if he does leave Everton in the summer. He wrote for the Daily Mail:

“I imagine Lukaku’s agent will have had plenty of offers but I wonder where he will go.

“It did not happen for him at Chelsea and Jose Mourinho – his manager there – has gone to Manchester United. I can’t see Mourinho wanting to commit to a player he did not completely believe in.

“Lukaku wants to be playing in the Champions League but there are question marks over whether Arsenal will finish in the top four. I cannot see him going to local rivals Liverpool, while Tottenham have Harry Kane. Pep Guardiola may want him at Manchester City but Lukaku may be looking to go abroad.”

Lukaku has long been linked with a move away from Everton but was convinced to stay by Koeman in the summer. However, he was also lacking serious interest after a drab end to last season and some poor performances for Belgium at the European Championships.

This summer he will no doubt be hoping to find himself a new home where he can showcase his talents on the biggest stage.

Will that be in England? It remains to be seen.
