Martin Jol suggests that Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente would have been a success with Aaron Lennon in the team.
With Vincent Janssen struggling to make an impact at White Hart Lane last season, Tottenham Hotspur needed to sign a suitable striker in the summer transfer window in order to support Harry Kane.
Kane has been the first-choice striker for Tottenham for the past three or so seasons, and he has been banging in the goals regularly.
The England international striker, though, has suffered injuries, and although Spurs have done well without him when he had been on the sidelines, they needed to make sure that they have an able back-up.
Tottenham signed Fernando Llorente in the summer transfer window as a striker to score the goals when Kane is not around.
According to Sky Sports, the North London outfit had to pay Swansea City a transfer fee of £12.1 million in order to secure the services of the Spain international striker.
The former Juventus and Sevilla striker has been used mainly as a substitute by manager Mauricio Pochettino so far this season.
Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has asked whether Spurs should have signed Llorente in the summer transfer window due to his playing style not being compatibility with the way the North London club’s.
“He is a decent second option, but he is totally different from Kane,” said Jol about Llorente on The Friday Football Social show on BBC Radio5live last Friday evening (7pm, September 29, 2017).
“He lives off service from flanks so he should play with, for example, Aaron Lennon, and they don’t play with Aaron Lennon.
“They play with the full-backs coming forward, so you will see the difference when Harry Kane is not there.”
